The ADHD Iceberg helps us look beyond the surface to better understand the emotional, social, and sensory struggles that aren’t always visible.
The ADHD Iceberg graphic below illustrates how much of a person’s ADHD experience lies beneath the surface.
Among the behaviors people typically notice are distraction, restlessness, irritation and difficulty with attending to tasks.
But there is a much larger and often invisible set of emotional, social, and sensory challenges that can shape daily life. These may include anxiety, executive-function challenges, emotional dysregulation, physical manifestations of stress, such as headaches and stomachaches, persistent feelings of inadequacy, and more.

By acknowledging the whole iceberg—not just what’s outwardly visible—we gain a deeper, more compassionate understanding of how ADHD impacts individuals in ways that aren’t always immediately seen.
